HVSA Instructions for Volunteers

In order to protect our soccer players and to adhere to the laws of the State of New Jersey, New Jersey Youth Soccer and the requirements of the local municipalities, there are a series of requirements for all volunteers.  If you wish to volunteer with an HVSA program, you must review the table below to understand the requirements.  These requirements are for Travel Soccer coaches AND for Recreational Soccer coaches.

Each of these items is explained more below:

NEW REQUIREMENT for 2011

  1. Take one of the online “Sports Concussion Injury Prevention and Management” courses.

There are two online courses available that may be used to meet the requirements of a NJ State law passed in Dec 2010.  These courses are to be taken online at your convenience, and usually take less than 30 minutes.

Once you have completed the certification, please provide a copy (and keep your original) to the person coordinating your program. Here are the links to obtain the training -- you only need to complete one of these courses:

  2. Conduct a NJ State Police Background Check

For the safety of all of the children in our programs; we are required to have background checks performed on all coaches and assistants. Appointments for background checks can be performed in Ewing, NJ and take roughly ten minutes.  For more information on how to get a background check click here

  3. Complete a NJ Youth Soccer KidSafe Form.

This form is required by NJ Youth Soccer and must be completed annually.  The form may be found here.

Please provide the signed copy of this form to the person coordinating your program.

  4. Obtain a coaching license by participating in one of the licensing courses of NJ Youth Soccer.

The first license is an “F” license, which is obtained after taking a 9-hour course.  HVSA usually tries to host one course per year.  Additional courses throughout the state may be found here

Please know that while we understand the additional burden this places on volunteers, we are required to follow these according to the laws of the state, municipalities, and school district.  Please allow time to get these requirements completed, as they may take time to work through the system
