Each were awarded $1500 scholarships by HVSA for their superior academic performance, community service and soccer achievements. Jamie is attending the University of Virginia, Patrick is attending Providence College and Lily is attending Worchester Polytechnic Institute. HVSA awards these scholarships every year to graduating seniors from the greater Hopewell Valley community who have participated in HVSA programs.
The Hopewell Valley Soccer Association recently partnered with Hopewell Physical Therapy to purchase soccer balls from an Afghan organization called DOSTI. Dosti, meaning “friendship” in Dari, is a joint venture started by two Afghan women that produces high quality hand-stitched soccer balls in Afghanistan.
This venture, DOSTI, is a project of the award-winning organization Bpeace, a non-profit network of business volunteers who work with entrepreneurs in violence-affected communities throughout the world to scale their businesses, create significant employment opportunities and expand the economic power of women.
Tom Bartolino, owner of Hopewell Physical Therapy, contacted HVSA with the idea which stemmed from his daughter, Allison, a former player in HVSA and current Bpeace volunteer.
Pictured with the DOSTI balls and several HVSA soccer players are Tom Bartolino (Far left) and Michael Cane, HVSA Travel Soccer Vice President (Far right).
